India calls for restraint, dialogue amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel

Synopsis
Following escalating hostilities, India has called on Iran and Israel to de-escalate tensions and pursue dialogue and diplomacy. This plea comes after Israel's Operation Rising Lion, a series of airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure, significantly intensified the existing conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the need to resolve underlying issues through existing diplomatic channels.
The remarks come hours after Israel launched a series of airstrikes deep inside Iranian territory, in what it termed Operation Rising Lion. The coordinated strikes targeted nuclear and military infrastructure, marking a significant escalation in the long-standing conflict.
India expressed deep concern over these developments, adding that it is “closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites.”
Reiterating its ties with both nations, the MEA statement further noted, “India enjoys close and friendly relations with both the countries and stands ready to extend all possible support.”
“All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe and follow local security advisories,” Jaiswal added.
What triggered the israeli strikes?
Israel’s operation comes amid rising concerns in Tel Aviv over Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the strike was a “targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival.”An Israeli military spokesperson described the airstrikes as a “preemptive, precise, combined offensive,” aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear program and long-range missile capabilities.
